Senecio stapeliiformis, commonly known as the Pickle Plant or Snake Creeper, is a fascinating succulent prized for its long, fleshy, triangular stems that resemble a string of pickles. Native to South Africa, this trailing plant is perfect for hanging baskets, shelves, or containers where its unique stems can cascade naturally. Its unusual form makes it a conversation piece for succulent collectors and indoor gardeners alike.

Characteristics

  • Fleshy, triangular stems with small white markings along their length

  • Trailing, cascading growth habit ideal for hanging planters or shelf displays

  • Produces small, star-shaped, maroon to reddish-brown flowers with a unique fragrance

  • Low-maintenance and drought-tolerant, suitable for both indoor and outdoor conditions in warm climates

  • Native to South Africa and well-adapted to bright, sunny environments

Care Tips

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight; can tolerate some direct sun but avoid scorching midday rays.

  • Watering: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.

  • Soil: Use a well-draining succulent or cactus mix to prevent root rot.

  • Temperature: Thrives in warm conditions; protect from frost.

  • Fertilizer: Feed lightly with a diluted, balanced fertilizer during the growing season to encourage healthy growth.

  • Maintenance: Trim or prune as needed to maintain shape and encourage fuller trailing growth.

The first two photos serves a display purpose only. The succulent plant housed in the red pot comes in a 80mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.
