Sansevieria Zeylanica

Sansevieria zeylanica is a hardy, upright houseplant valued for its striking sword-shaped leaves with attractive green banding. Suitable for both indoor and sheltered outdoor spaces, it makes an excellent choice for bright living areas, offices, or covered patios where its architectural form can be appreciated.

This resilient foliage plant is popular with beginners and experienced plant collectors alike thanks to its low-maintenance nature. The upright leaves create a clean, modern look while tolerating periods of neglect better than many indoor plants. It can adapt to a range of light conditions, although brighter indirect light encourages stronger growth and vibrant leaf colour.

Care Guide

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light but also tolerates lower light conditions. Avoid prolonged exposure to intense afternoon sun, especially if moving the plant outdoors, and acclimatise gradually.

Watering

Allow the potting mix to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering during the cooler months, as excessive moisture can lead to root problems.

Soil

Use a free-draining cactus or succulent potting mix with good aeration.

Temperature

Prefers warm conditions and should be protected from frost. Suitable for indoor growing throughout Australia and can be grown outdoors in frost-free regions.

Fertiliser

Feed lightly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength. Little or no fertiliser is needed during winter.
