Frequently Asked Questions
Is this really a succulent?
NO! This is an orchid. The product description has an error calling it a succulent. Potinara is a Cattleya alliance orchid hybrid. Care is completely different from succulents.
Can I grow this orchid like my succulents?
Absolutely not! Orchids need more water, higher humidity, different potting media (bark, not soil), and different care. Following succulent care will kill this orchid.
How often do I water this orchid?
Water every 5-7 days typically - much MORE frequently than succulents. Orchids should not dry out completely between waterings like succulents do.
What potting mix should I use?
Orchid bark mix ONLY. Never use succulent soil or cactus mix - this will rot the roots. Orchids are epiphytes and need chunky bark that provides air circulation.
Why doesn't my orchid bloom?
Insufficient light is the most common cause. Orchids need bright indirect light and a temperature drop (cooler nights) in fall to trigger flowering.
How long do the flowers last?
Potinara flowers typically last 3-6 weeks. The plant may bloom once or twice per year when mature and properly cared for.
Is this orchid hard to care for?
Potinara hybrids are considered intermediate in difficulty - easier than some orchids but requiring more attention than succulents. They need proper light, regular watering, humidity, and orchid-specific care.
Can I keep this orchid indoors?
Yes! Potinara orchids are excellent houseplants for bright, humid locations. Bathrooms with windows are ideal.
