Peperomia graveolens is a compact, eye-catching succulent native to Ecuador, admired for its thick, translucent green leaves with rich ruby-red undersides. Its upright, v-shaped foliage appears to glow when light passes through the leaf tips, giving it a jewel-like appearance—hence the nickname Ruby Glow. This slow-growing plant adds texture and color to desks, windowsills, and succulent arrangements.

Key Characteristics:

  • Botanical Name: Peperomia graveolens
  • Common Names: Ruby Glow, Ruby Peperomia
  • Foliage: Succulent, canoe-shaped leaves with translucent green tops and vivid red undersides
  • Growth Habit: Compact, mounding form
  • Size: Typically grows up to 20–25 cm tall and wide
  • Use: Indoor containers, succulent trays, terrariums, or small decorative pots

Care Tips:

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate some morning sun. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sunlight, which may cause leaf scorching.
  • Watering: Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly but infrequently. Like most succulents, it is sensitive to overwatering.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining succulent or cactus mix. Ensure pots have drainage holes.
  • Humidity: Tolerates normal household humidity. No extra humidity is required.
  • Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 18°C and 26°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 10°C.
  • Fertilizer: Feed monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer.
  • Maintenance: Very low maintenance. Remove dead or damaged leaves to keep the plant tidy.
  • Propagation: Can be propagated from leaf or stem cuttings in moist soil or water.

Special Features:

  • Stunning red-green bicolor foliage
  • Ideal for small spaces and succulent lovers
  • Drought-tolerant and easy to care for
  • Non-toxic to pets (according to most sources, though ingestion is still not recommended)
