Botanical name: Parodia sp.
Common name: Parodia Alba

Parodia Alba is a compact cactus with a neat, rounded shape and dense white spines that give it a soft, frosted look. It suits bright windowsills, covered patios, and small pots where its texture can really stand out.

This cactus has a globular to short columnar growth habit with clear ribs and closely set areoles. The green body is partly hidden beneath fine white spines, which create a tidy, silvery appearance. It is a good choice for growers who enjoy small architectural plants, and it also works well for beginners wanting a cactus that stays manageable in a pot.

As it matures, it may grow as a single stem or form a small clustered group, depending on age and growing conditions. The white spination is the main feature people are usually drawn to, giving it contrast without needing much space.

Want your succulent with a pot?

This has been grown in a 130 mm nursery pot, so that size is a good guide if you’re picking a pot for home. We usually ship bare root for freshness and to keep costs low, but we’re happy to pot your plant on request!

Care Guide

Light

Parodia Alba grows best in very bright light. A position with morning sun or plenty of filtered light indoors usually works well. In hotter parts of Australia, strong afternoon sun can mark the plant if it has not been gradually acclimatised, so increase direct sun slowly.

Watering

Water thoroughly, then let the potting mix dry well before watering again. Like most cacti, it is better kept a little on the dry side than watered too often. Reduce watering in cooler months when growth slows.

Potting mix

Use a free-draining cactus or succulent mix with added mineral material if needed. Good drainage is important, especially in winter or humid weather.

Temperature

This cactus prefers warm conditions and airflow. Protect it from frost and prolonged cold, wet conditions. If your area gets winter rain or very cold nights, a covered spot is safer.
