Ludisia discolor, commonly known as the Jewel Orchid, is a truly unique plant admired not for flashy flowers, but for its richly textured, deep burgundy-green leaves with delicate, coppery-pink veining. A ground-dwelling orchid native to Southeast Asia, it brings a sense of luxury and calm to shaded interiors, thriving in the same conditions that make other orchids struggle.
Main Features:
- Velvety dark foliage with fine, shimmering veins
- Produces elegant white flowers on tall spikes in late autumn to winter
- Grows low and spreading—ideal for shelves, terrariums, or shaded plant corners
- A true foliage gem that stands out in any plant collection
- Non-toxic and pet-friendly compared to many traditional orchids
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers low to medium indirect light—perfect for lower-light rooms. Avoid direct sun.
- Water: Keep the soil lightly moist, never soggy. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry.
- Humidity: Enjoys higher humidity (50–70%). Great for bathrooms, or mist regularly.
- Soil: Use a loose, airy orchid or aroid mix with good drainage.
- Temperature: Thrives in warm indoor conditions (18°C–25°C). Avoid cold drafts.
- Fertilizer: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a diluted orchid fertilizer. Reduce in winter.
