Echinofossulocactus Vaupelianus

Also known under the genus Stenocactus, Echinofossulocactus vaupelianus features dense, narrow ribs that form intricate wave-like patterns across the body of the plant. These ribs are lined with short spines, giving it a textured, architectural look that stands out in cactus collections.

The plant typically grows as a small, globular cactus, making it a practical choice for limited spaces or small pots. Its compact size and structured form make it suitable for styling on shelves, desks, or grouped with other cacti.

In the right conditions, it may produce small, delicate flowers near the crown, usually in soft tones. Flowering is seasonal and depends on light, maturity, and growing conditions.

Want your succulent with a pot?

This has been grown in a 130mm nursery pot, so that size is a good guide if you’re picking a pot for home.

We usually ship bare root for freshness and to keep costs low, but we’re happy to pot your plant on request.

Care Guide

Light

Prefers bright light to full sun. Indoors, place near a sunny window. Introduce gradually to direct sun to avoid stress.

Water

Allow soil to dry out completely between watering. Water sparingly, especially during cooler months.

Soil

Use a free-draining cactus mix. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.

Temperature

Prefers warm, dry conditions. Protect from frost and prolonged cold.

Feeding

Feed lightly during the growing season with a diluted cactus fertiliser.

Good to Know

This cactus develops its characteristic rib pattern more clearly as it matures.

Like many desert cacti, it enters a slower growth phase during winter and requires minimal watering during this time.

Spines are short but still firm, so handle with care when repotting.
