Crassula plegmatoides, also known as Crassula arta, is a fascinating and rare succulent species native to South Africa. It features short, cylindrical grey-green leaves that grow tightly along upright stems, giving the plant a stacked, columnar appearance. The textured, waxy surface of the leaves helps reduce water loss, making this plant perfectly adapted to arid conditions. In late winter to spring, it produces tiny white to pale pink flowers, adding a delicate touch to its striking structure.
Key Features:
-
Compact, upright stems with stacked cylindrical leaves
-
Subtle white to pink flowers during the growing season
-
Distinct geometric form ideal for collectors
-
Drought-tolerant and low-maintenance
-
Excellent for small pots, rock gardens, or succulent displays
Care Tips:
-
Light: Prefers bright light or full sun to maintain its compact form.
-
Water: Water sparingly; allow the soil to dry completely before watering again. Avoid overwatering.
-
Soil: Use a gritty, well-draining cactus or succulent mix.
-
Temperature: Thrives in warm, dry conditions; protect from frost and excess moisture.
