Blue Boobs Cactus (Myrtillocactus geometrizans ‘Fukurokuryuzinboku’) is a standout columnar cactus prized for its uniquely swollen ribs and glaucous blue-green skin. It makes an instant feature for a bright patio display, a sunny outdoor spot once acclimated, or any cactus collection that needs something truly sculptural.
Common Name: Blue Boobs Cactus, Booby Cactus, Fukurokuryuzinboku
Botanical Name: Myrtillocactus geometrizans 'Fukurokuryuzinboku'
Growth Habit: Columnar cactus with uniquely swollen ribs, often resembling a series of "boobs"
Why It’s So Unique:
This plant is often sought out by collectors for its unusual, plump ribbed structure and playful form. The skin is typically glaucous blue-green with a waxy bloom, which adds to its sculptural look. It’s also described as slow-growing and long-lived, and can reach impressive height in the right conditions while keeping its distinctive lumpy texture.
Size:
In ideal conditions, it’s described as a slow grower that can take many years to reach around 1–2 metres tall, while often staying compact in pots for a long time.
Special features
This plant is listed as a rare mutation of the more common Myrtillocactus geometrizans. With maturity, it may produce small white flowers and edible blue fruits. Each plant is uniquely shaped, so no two are exactly alike.
Care Guide:
-
Light: Requires full sun to partial shade; full sun enhances blue coloration
-
Water: Very drought-tolerant; allow soil to dry completely between waterings
-
Soil: Gritty, well-draining cactus mix
-
Temperature: Prefers warm conditions; protect from frost or prolonged cold (ideal above 10°C)
-
Fertiliser: Use a diluted cactus fertiliser once a month during active growing season (spring-summer)
Perfect For:
This cactus is listed as ideal for collectors of rare and odd-shaped plants, and suits indoor or outdoor cactus displays, modern landscape styling, and statement container gardens.
