Oncidesa ‘Little Panda’
Oncidesa (Gomesa Moon Shadow × Oncidium varicosum) ‘Little Panda’
Oncidesa ‘Little Panda’ is a compact orchid hybrid admired for its branching sprays of small, boldly patterned flowers. As part of the Oncidium alliance, it combines the free-flowering nature of Oncidium varicosum with the refined colouring of Gomesa Moon Shadow.
The blooms typically feature warm yellow tones with rich brown to red markings, giving the plant its distinctive “Little Panda” name. In an 80mm pot, it is an excellent feature plant for bright indoor spaces where its flower spikes can be appreciated up close.
When in bloom, it adds movement and colour without taking up much room, making it suitable for apartments, shelves, and protected patios.
Why it works as a feature plant
• Decorative sprays of patterned flowers
• Compact growth habit
• Suitable for bright indoor positions
• Collectible orchid hybrid
Care Guide
Light
Provide bright, indirect light. Gentle morning sun can be suitable, but avoid strong afternoon sun, especially in warmer Australian climates.
Watering
Water thoroughly when the growing medium approaches dryness. Orchids prefer moisture but should never sit in water. Good drainage is essential.
Humidity
Prefers moderate humidity. In dry indoor environments, placing near other plants or using a humidity tray can help.
Airflow
Ensure good airflow around the plant to reduce the risk of fungal issues, particularly during humid weather.
Feeding
Use a diluted orchid fertiliser during active growth. Reduce feeding after flowering.
Good to Know
Flowering typically occurs once mature pseudobulbs have developed. After flowering, spikes can be trimmed back once they dry.
Orchid roots are adapted to airy media such as bark. Avoid repotting into dense soil mixes.
