Begonia Maculata

Begonia Maculata is a striking indoor plant admired for its distinctive silver-spotted leaves and elegant cane-like growth habit. Often referred to as the Polka Dot Begonia, it brings colour, texture, and architectural interest to bright indoor spaces, making it a favourite among houseplant enthusiasts.

Its elongated olive-green leaves are decorated with contrasting silver spots, while the undersides display rich burgundy to deep red tones. As the plant matures, it develops upright stems that create a dramatic display, whether grown as a feature plant, part of a foliage collection, or positioned in a bright living area.

Begonia Maculata is prized for its ornamental foliage and eye-catching appearance. The combination of spotted leaves and colourful undersides creates visual interest from every angle, making it one of the most recognisable begonias available for indoor growing.

Under suitable conditions, mature plants may produce clusters of delicate white to pale pink flowers that hang gracefully beneath the foliage. While the blooms are attractive, the plant is primarily grown for its spectacular leaves. Its upright growth habit makes it particularly suitable for adding height and structure to indoor plant displays.

Want your succulent with a pot?

This plant has been grown in a 130 mm nursery pot, so that size is a useful guide when selecting a decorative pot for home. We usually ship plants in their nursery pots where appropriate to help minimise stress during transport.

Care Guide

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light. A position near a well-lit window with filtered sunlight is often ideal. Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh direct sun, which may damage the foliage.

Watering

Allow the top layer of potting mix to dry slightly before watering. Keep the soil lightly moist but avoid waterlogged conditions.

Soil

Use a quality indoor plant mix that provides good drainage while retaining some moisture around the roots.

Temperature

Thrives in warm indoor conditions and should be protected from frost and cold drafts.

Humidity

Begonia Maculata appreciates moderate to higher humidity levels. Good airflow is also beneficial for healthy growth.

Fertiliser

Apply a balanced indoor plant fertiliser during the active growing season to support healthy foliage and flowering.

Good to Know

Begonia Maculata can become taller as it matures and may benefit from occasional pruning to encourage a fuller, bushier appearance. Bright indirect light helps maintain strong growth and vibrant foliage colouring.
