Thelocactus bicolor is a captivating cactus species native to northern Mexico and Texas, known for its striking spines and vibrant flowers. This compact cactus features a rounded to cylindrical body with prominent ribs and long, multicoloured spines ranging from white to reddish-brown. In spring and summer, it bursts into bloom with large, silky pink to magenta flowers, often with a bright yellow centre, making it a showpiece for any cactus or succulent collection.

Key Features

  • Eye-catching flowers in shades of pink to magenta with golden centres.

  • Distinctive spines that vary in colour for year-round interest.

  • Compact size perfect for pots, rock gardens, and cactus arrangements.

  • Drought-tolerant and resilient in dry conditions.

  • Low-maintenance plant ideal for beginners and collectors alike.

Care Tips

  • Light: Full sun to bright, indirect light for best flowering.

  • Water: Water deeply but infrequently; allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.

  • Temperature: Tolerates heat; protect from frost below 0°C.

  • Soil: Use a gritty, well-draining cactus/succulent mix.

  • Feeding: Apply a diluted cactus fertiliser during the active growing season (spring–summer).

  • Potting: Choose a pot with drainage holes to prevent root rot.

The succulent plant housed in the red pot comes in a 100mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.
