Sempervivum calcareum ‘Sir William Lawrence’ – Easy-Care Alpine Succulent

Sempervivum calcareum Sir William Lawrence, Hens and Chicks plant Australia, hardy alpine succulents Australia, buy Sempervivum online Australia, low maintenance succulents, drought-tolerant plants Australia.

Sempervivum calcareum ‘Sir William Lawrence’ is a hardy alpine succulent known for its tight rosettes of silvery-green leaves tipped in rich burgundy. This compact and fast-spreading variety forms clusters of “hens and chicks,” making it perfect for rock gardens, containers, or as a groundcover. It’s exceptionally cold-hardy and low-maintenance, thriving in tough conditions where other plants may struggle.

  • Foliage: Silvery-green, triangular leaves with deep red tips.

  • Growth Habit: Low-growing rosettes, quickly producing offsets.

  • Flowering: Produces star-shaped pink blooms in summer on mature rosettes.

  • Height/Spread: 5–10 cm tall, spreading 15–20 cm.

  • Hardiness: Tolerates frost and drought; suitable for outdoor planting year-round.

Care Tips Sempervivum calcareum :

  • Light: Prefers full sun for vibrant colors but tolerates partial shade.

  • Soil: Use well-draining, gritty soil to prevent root rot.

  • Watering: Water sparingly—allow soil to dry between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.

  • Fertilizer: Rarely needed; a light feed in spring can encourage growth.

  • Maintenance: Remove spent rosettes after flowering and replant offsets to maintain dense clusters.

  • Uses: Ideal for rock gardens, troughs, green roofs, borders, or mixed succulent arrangements.

The succulent plant housed in the black pot comes in a 130mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.
