Vanilla planifolia is a tropical climbing orchid best known as the source of natural vanilla. It suits warm indoor spaces or protected patios with room to climb.
This plant produces long, vining stems with thick, glossy green leaves. Over time, it can grow quite long if supported, making it a unique choice for collectors or growers interested in something a little different. While flowering and pod production require specific conditions, many people grow it for its lush foliage and unusual growth habit.
This has been grown in a 230mm nursery pot, so that size is a good guide if you’re picking a pot for home. We usually ship bare root for freshness and to keep costs low, but we’re happy to pot your plant on request!
Care
Light Bright filtered light is ideal. Avoid direct midday sun.
Watering Water when the mix begins to dry. Keep slightly moist but not wet.
Support Provide a stake or trellis to guide climbing growth.
Humidity Prefers higher humidity. Suitable for bathrooms or humid indoor areas.

This plant is slow to mature and may take several years to flower under home conditions.
