Senecio stapeliiformis, also known as the Pickle Plant or Candle Plant, is a striking and unusual succulent known for its upright, pencil-like stems adorned with purple-green patterns and soft spines. Native to South Africa, this drought-tolerant plant adds a sculptural, architectural look to any succulent collection or indoor display.

Characteristics:

  • Distinctive cylindrical stems with mottled markings
  • Soft, flexible spines and occasional bright orange-red blooms
  • Compact, upright growth habit
  • Perfect for pots, rock gardens, or sunny windowsills
  • Drought-tolerant and easy to care for

Care Instructions:

  • Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light to full sun. Best color and form develop with plenty of light.
  • Watering: Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix.
  • Temperature: Prefers warm conditions (18°C to 28°C).

The first two photos serves a display purpose only. The succulent plant housed in the red pot comes in a 80mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.

Arrived in great condition

This is an interesting plant, it arrived, as did the other two plants in my order in a robust condition. It didn’t miss a beat from being taken out of soil, sent through the mail & repotted…In short, it is thriving. All my plants came bare rooted as you are told they will & if this concerns you it shouldn’t. I have purchased a lot of succulents online & from experience the travel better without soil. Without soil they can be packed more securely to withstand the rigours of postage & mine from here were extremely well packed. I could not be happier with all aspects of my purchase & will not only buy here again, I feel totally comfortable to recommend to family, friends & you who is reading this.
