Sempervivum

Sempervivum, commonly known as Hens and Chicks, is a hardy and low-maintenance succulent famous for its charming rosettes and ability to thrive in tough conditions. These plants form dense mats of clustered rosettes—the “hen” produces small offsets, or “chicks,” that spread around the base, creating an ever-growing succulent family. With a wide variety of colors, from fresh green to deep red and even purple tones, Sempervivum adds year-round interest to rock gardens, containers, and living arrangements.

• Extremely hardy and drought-tolerant.

Care Tips:

• Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade; more sun brings out richer colors.

• Watering: Very drought-tolerant. Water sparingly; allow soil to dry between waterings. Avoid overwatering.

• Soil: Requires well-draining soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix with added sand or grit.

• Temperature: Extremely cold-hardy and heat-tolerant. Suitable for outdoor growing year-round.

• Fertilizer: Minimal feeding; a light application of cactus fertilizer in spring is sufficient.
