Oreocereus Celsianus - Old Man of the Andes - Maximus

Oreocereus celsianus is a species of cactus commonly known as the "Old Man of the Andes" or "Queen of the Andes." I believe you might have meant Oreocereus celsianus Maximus, which is a cultivar of Oreocereus celsianus.

Oreocereus celsianus is a slow-growing, columnar cactus that can reach up to 5 meters in height and 15 cm in diameter. It is native to the Andes Mountains in South America and is characterized by long, white hairs that cover its stem, giving it a shaggy, "old man" appearance. The hairs are actually modified spines that help protect the plant from harsh weather conditions and reflect sunlight, reducing the risk of sun damage.

This cactus produces beautiful pink or purple flowers that bloom at night and are pollinated by moths. The flowers are followed by small, edible fruits that are a source of food for local animals and people.

Oreocereus celsianus Maximus is a cultivar that is similar to the species but has larger and more densely packed spines. It is a popular ornamental plant and is often grown in cactus gardens and collections. However, like other species of cactus, it is also threatened by habitat loss and over-collection.
