Common Name: Camouflage Plant
Scientific Name: Aglaonema pictum ‘Tricolour’
Description:
Aglaonema pictum tricolour is a rare and highly sought-after aroid known for its stunning, camouflage-like foliage. Native to the tropical rainforests of Sumatra, this variety features elongated, lance-shaped leaves with a unique mosaic pattern of deep green, light green, and silvery-green tones. Its unusual variegation makes it a true collector’s item and a striking addition to any indoor plant collection.
Main Characteristics:
- Foliage: Lance-shaped, velvety leaves with tricolour camouflage pattern
- Growth Habit: Compact, upright form
- Size: Typically grows 30–60 cm tall
- Light: Bright, indirect light
- Hardiness: USDA zones 10–12; not frost hardy
- Rarity: Considered a rare and premium cultivar among houseplant enthusiasts
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers bright, filtered light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the foliage.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out before watering again.
- Soil: Use a well-draining, airy mix—such as a combination of orchid bark, perlite, and peat or coco coir.
- Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (60%+). Consider using a humidifier or pebble tray in drier environments.
- Temperature: Keep in warm indoor conditions above 18°C (64°F). Avoid cold drafts.
- Fertiliser: Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
