Pachypodium brevicaule subsp. leucoxanthum is a rare, slow-growing succulent native to the rocky highlands of Madagascar. This plant is admired for its distinctive, flat, pancake-like caudex and spiny stems. Unlike most Pachypodiums, it stays compact and low to the ground, making it a perfect candidate for bonsai-style displays or unique container gardens.

In spring or early summer, it produces delicate, funnel-shaped yellow flowers, which contrast beautifully with its silvery-green foliage. This species is a favorite among collectors due to its sculptural form and rarity.

Key Characteristics:

  • Species: Pachypodium brevicaule subsp. leucoxanthum
  • Growth Habit: Very compact with a swollen caudex
  • Foliage: Narrow, grey-green leaves emerging from spiny stems
  • Flowers: Bright yellow, blooming in warmer months
  • Lifespan: Long-lived, slow-growing

Care Instructions:

  • Light: Prefers full sun to bright, indirect light. Protect from intense afternoon sun in very hot climates.
  • Watering: Water sparingly. Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering significantly during winter dormancy.
  • Soil: Use a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix. A gritty, mineral-rich substrate is ideal.
  • Temperature: Thrives in warm conditions but should be protected from frost. Ideal temperature range is 15–30°C.
  • Fertiliser: Feed with a diluted succulent fertiliser during the active growing season (spring and summer).
  • Dormancy: Goes dormant in colder months. Water very minimally or not at all during this time.

The succulent plant housed in the red pot comes in a 130mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.
