Agave ‘Barbed Wire’ is a bold and striking succulent known for its sharply defined structure and fierce-looking leaf margins. This hybrid agave features long, narrow, blue-green leaves edged with prominent, hooked teeth resembling barbed wire—giving the plant both its name and its dramatic appeal. It’s a standout specimen for collectors and landscape designers alike.
Characteristics:
- Foliage: Stiff, sword-like leaves with a powdery, bluish hue and dark, curved spines along the edges.
- Size: Can reach 60–90 cm in height and similar width when mature, forming a strong, symmetrical rosette.
- Growth Rate: Moderate; stays relatively compact for several years, ideal for both containers and open garden beds.
- Hardiness: Drought-tolerant and heat-loving once established.
Care Guide:
- Light: Prefers full sun to light shade. Brighter light enhances its form and colour.
- Watering: Water deeply but infrequently—allow the soil to dry completely between waterings.
- Soil: Requires well-draining soil; sandy or rocky cactus mixes work best.
- Temperature: Thrives in warm climates; protect from frost or extended cold (best above 5°C).
- Fertiliser: Low feeder. Apply a diluted cactus fertiliser once during the growing season.
- Maintenance: Very low-maintenance. Handle with care due to sharp spines.
The succulent plant housed in the red pot comes in a 130mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.
