Scilla violacea is a charming and unusual bulbous succulent often grown for its ornamental foliage as much as its resilience. It features silvery-green, lance-shaped leaves speckled with deep purple spots and vivid purple undersides, making it a standout in both indoor collections and shaded garden corners. Though often mistaken for a succulent, it is technically a bulb-forming perennial.

Main Features:

  • Unique Foliage: Silver-green leaves with purple spots and striking purple undersides

  • Compact Growth: Forms small clumps of bulbs over time—great for pots or hanging baskets

  • Miniature Blooms: Produces tiny, star-shaped pale violet flowers on slender stalks in spring/summer

  • Tough and Adaptable: Handles neglect, thrives in dry indoor environments

  • Decorative and Low Maintenance: Ideal for small spaces and windowsills

Care Tips:

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Tolerates some direct morning sun. Too much sun may scorch the leaves.

  • Watering: Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Bulbs may rot if kept too wet.

  • Soil: Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Ensure good airflow around the bulbs.

  • Temperature: Best in warm conditions (above 10 °C). Protect from frost and excess cold.

  • Fertilising: Feed lightly during active growth (spring to summer) with diluted liquid fertiliser.

  • Propagation: Easily multiplies by offset bulbs. Gently separate and replant during dormancy or spring.

The first photo serves a display purpose only. The succulent plant housed in the red pot comes in a 130mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.
