Delonix decaryi is a rare and unusual deciduous succulent tree native to Madagascar. Closely related to the flamboyant Delonix regia, this species stands out with its thick, swollen trunk (caudex) and striking fern-like foliage, making it a prized specimen for collectors of bonsai-style or caudiciform plants. In time, it produces large, exotic flowers, typically in shades of creamy yellow or white with red markings.

Main Features:

  • Caudiciform Growth: Swollen base stores water and gives it a bonsai-like appearance

  • Unique Foliage: Delicate, feathery leaves that drop in winter

  • Rare Collector’s Plant: Sought-after species not commonly found in cultivation

  • Drought-Tolerant: Well-adapted to dry conditions and infrequent watering

  • Flowering Tree: In maturity, can produce stunning tropical blooms

Care Tips:

  • Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade. Indoors, place in a bright, warm location.

  • Watering: Water sparingly—allow soil to fully dry out between waterings. Reduce further during dormancy.

  • Soil: Use a very well-draining cactus/succulent mix. Add coarse sand or pumice if needed.

  • Temperature: Loves warmth. Protect from frost—ideal temperature is above 10 °C.

  • Growth Cycle: Deciduous in winter—shedding leaves is normal during dormancy.

  • Fertilising: Feed occasionally in spring and summer with a diluted, balanced fertiliser. Avoid feeding during dormancy.

  • Container Growing: Suitable for pots and bonsai training due to its slow, sculptural growth.

The succulent plant housed in the red pot comes in a 190mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.
