Yucca brevifolia, commonly known as the Joshua Tree, is a slow-growing, long-lived succulent tree native to the Mojave Desert in the southwestern United States. With its twisted, upright branches and dense clusters of spiky, sword-shaped leaves, this plant has become an iconic symbol of arid landscapes. Its architectural form, drought tolerance, and rugged beauty make it a standout specimen for xeriscapes and collectors of rare desert plants.

Features:

  • Distinctive tree-like form with multiple upright branches
  • Rigid, bluish-green leaves in dense rosettes at branch tips
  • Can reach heights of 3–12 metres in natural habitat (smaller in cultivation)
  • Produces creamy-white, bell-shaped flowers on tall stalks in spring (when mature)
  • Extremely drought-tolerant and adapted to dry, sandy soils
  • Long lifespan and slow, steady growth

Care Tips:

  • Light: Requires full sun for optimal growth and form.
  • Watering: Very drought-tolerant. Water sparingly and allow soil to dry completely between waterings.
  • Soil: Prefers sandy, well-drained soils. Avoid heavy, clay-rich soil.
  • Temperature: Hardy to about -12°C once established. Protect young plants from frost.
  • Fertilizer: Minimal feeding needed. Use a low-nitrogen cactus fertiliser in spring if desired.
  • Placement: Best suited for large outdoor spaces, xeriscapes, or desert gardens. Can be grown in containers when young.

The first photo serves a display purpose only. The succulent plant housed in the red pot comes in a 130mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.
