Portulacaria Jade Plant

Portulacaria afra, commonly known as the Jade Plant, Elephant Bush, or Dwarf Jade, is a versatile succulent native to South Africa. Unlike the traditional Crassula jade plant, this variety has smaller, rounded leaves and reddish stems. It's known for its vigorous growth, drought tolerance, and suitability for bonsai and decorative containers. Its natural bushy form and adaptability make it ideal for both indoor and outdoor cultivation.

Key Characteristics:

• Foliage: Small, round, glossy green leaves with reddish stems.
• Growth Habit: Sprawling or upright; easily shaped and pruned.
• Size: Can grow 1–2 metres tall in the ground, but remains compact in pots.
• Uses: Great for bonsai, succulent gardens, hanging baskets, and hedges in warm climates.

Care Tips:

• Light: Enjoys bright, indirect light indoors or full sun outdoors. Too little light may cause stretching.
• Watering: Water thoroughly when soil is dry. Drought-tolerant, but overwatering can cause root rot.
• Soil: Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix.
• Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures. Protect from frost.
• Fertilising: Light feeding during the growing season with a diluted succulent fertiliser.
• Maintenance: Prune to maintain shape. Easy to propagate from cuttings.
