Peperomia graveolens, also known as Ruby Glow, is a stunning semi-succulent houseplant admired for its thick, curved leaves that are deep green on top and rich ruby red underneath. Native to the dry forests of Ecuador, this compact and slow-growing variety adds a bold pop of colour and texture to indoor plant collections.
Key Characteristics:
- Foliage: Boat-shaped leaves with translucent windows on top and vivid red undersides.
- Growth Habit: Mounding and slightly trailing, ideal for small pots or decorative planters.
- Size: Grows up to 20 cm tall and spreads gently with age.
- Flowers: Produces slender, tail-like cream flower spikes, though it's mainly grown for its foliage.
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate some direct morning sun but avoid harsh afternoon rays.
- Watering: Allow soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering is the most common issue—err on the dry side.
- Soil: Well-draining, airy mix such as a blend of cactus soil and orchid bark.
- Temperature: Thrives in warm indoor conditions between 18–25°C. Avoid cold drafts and frost.
- Humidity: Tolerates average indoor humidity but appreciates occasional misting in very dry environments.
- Fertilizing: Feed with a diluted liquid fertilizer during the growing season (spring to early autumn).
