Kalanchoe robusta 'Variegata' – Variegated Kalanchoe Robusta
Sculptural. Rare. Eye-Catching.
Add bold structure and rare beauty to your succulent collection with Kalanchoe robusta 'Variegata', an exceptional cultivar native to the arid landscapes of East Africa. This slow-growing, upright succulent shrub is celebrated for its thick, fleshy leaves streaked with creamy white, soft yellow, and pale green tones—offering a dramatic contrast against its rugged, architectural form.
Characteristics:
- Foliage: Thick, leathery leaves with a powdery coating, often tinged with cream, pale yellow, and soft green variegation. Leaf edges may display pink or red hues under strong sunlight.
- Growth Habit: Upright and shrubby, with a strong central stem and broad, fleshy leaves. Can reach up to 1–2 meters in ideal conditions.
- Texture: Leaves have a waxy or chalky texture, helping the plant retain moisture in dry environments.
- Rarity: This variegated form is uncommon and highly sought after by collectors.
Care Guide:
- Light: Requires bright light to full sun to maintain strong variegation and compact growth. Indoors, place near a sunny window.
- Watering: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly, especially during winter.
- Humidity: Prefers dry air and well-ventilated spaces.
- Temperature: Ideal range is 18°C to 30°C. Protect from frost and cold temperatures below 10°C.
- Soil: Needs a very well-draining mix. Use cactus or succulent soil with added perlite or pumice.
- Fertiliser: Feed with a diluted succulent fertiliser once a month during the active growing season (spring to autumn).
- Propagation: Can be propagated from leaf cuttings or offsets. Allow cuttings to callous before planting.
