Parodia scopa, commonly known as the Silver Ball Cactus or Snowball Cactus, is a charming and globular cactus native to South America, particularly found in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.
Growth Habit: Parodia scopa grows as a solitary sphere or cylinder that can eventually form clusters with age. It typically reaches 2-6 inches in diameter but can grow taller under optimal conditions.
Spine Characteristics: The spines are one of the most distinctive features of Parodia scopa, providing not only protection but also giving the cactus its characteristic silver or snowball-like appearance.
Flowers: Parodia scopa blooms in the summer, producing vibrant yellow flowers that form a crown around the top of the cactus. These flowers are generally large compared to the size of the plant and can last several days.
