Fenestraria Baby's Toes
Fenestraria Baby's Toes
Fenestraria rhopalophylla, commonly known as Baby’s Toes, is a charming and unusual succulent native to the arid regions of Namibia and South Africa.
Growth Habit: Baby's Toes forms low, compact clusters that rarely rise above the soil surface. Each "toe" is actually a succulent leaf that is mostly buried underground, with just the translucent top showing above the soil.
Leaf Characteristics: The leaves of Fenestraria are cylindrical and fleshy, with a translucent window at the tip.
Flowers: Fenestraria blooms in the early fall and sometimes again in spring, producing daisy-like flowers that are surprisingly large compared to the size of the plant.
Rock Gardens: Well-suited for rock gardens in arid or semi-arid climates, Baby’s Toes can grow in small crevices where little else would survive.
Container Gardening: Perfect for shallow containers or bowls where its unusual form can be fully appreciated, often used in combination with other succulents for varied texture and interest.
Drought Tolerance: Extremely drought-tolerant, requiring minimal watering and capable of surviving long periods without water.
Low Maintenance: Requires very little maintenance.
