Euphorbia Ingens
Make a bold and architectural statement with Euphorbia ingens, commonly known as the Candelabra Tree or Naboom. This impressive succulent tree boasts a thick, central trunk that branches into numerous upright, candelabra-like arms, creating a striking silhouette. Native to the dry regions of Southern Africa, it's a resilient and dramatic addition to any large indoor space or frost-free outdoor landscape.
Key Characteristics:
Candelabra-like Form: The most distinctive feature is its growth habit, with a stout trunk branching into multiple, upward-reaching, segmented arms that resemble a candelabra.
Ribbed Stems: The fleshy, green stems are typically 4-5 sided with ridges along the edges. Small spines grow along these ridges.
Leafless Appearance: Mature plants are largely leafless as the small, inconspicuous leaves are often short-lived and drop quickly. The green stems are the primary photosynthetic organs.
Slow to Moderate Growth: While it can reach impressive heights over time (up to 40 feet outdoors, 8-10 feet indoors), its growth rate is generally slow to moderate, especially when container-grown.
Occasional Yellow Flowers: Mature plants may produce small, greenish-yellow flowers along the ridges of the upper stem segments, typically in the fall or winter. These can be followed by reddish to purple, round fruit.
Care Tips:
Light: Requires bright, direct sunlight to thrive. Indoors, a south or west-facing window is ideal. Outdoors, provide a sunny location. Insufficient light can lead to weak, etiolated growth.
Watering: Very drought-tolerant once established. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is the most common cause of failure and can lead to root rot. Water sparingly, especially during the winter dormancy period.
Soil: Needs well-draining soil. Use a cactus or succulent potting mix. Ensure containers have drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.
Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures between 70-85°F (21-29°C). It is not frost-tolerant and should be protected from temperatures below 50°F (10°C).The first photo serves a display purpose only. The succulent plant housed in the red pot comes in a 190mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.
