‘Vicks Plant’ Plectranthus tomentosa

This month we explore a little plant from the Plectranthus family- Plectranthus tomentosa ‘Vicks Plant’.

It was named because of the powerful smell it has when the leaves are brushed or squeezed.

Lavender-purple flowers appear through spring to autumn which the bees love. This little plant not only looks pretty in cottage gardens but also makes a great ground-cover in succulent gardens.

It gives succulent gardens a softer appearance as long it is planted in a sunny to partly shaded position, it does have to be protected from frosts though.

Also known as mentholatum plant, due to the aroma it gives off when brushing against it. As you can see by the pictures the plant can change colours depending on where it is growing and how much sun it is getting. Either way it's a great little addition to any garden. Relatively pest free, and quite hardy.
